Icon Workshops

Sponsorship an Icon Painting Workshop

Workshops can be sponsored by parishes, museums, arts groups or other groups or organizations interested in learning the ancient art of iconography.

Workshop

The workshop will be an intense 6 day or evening course where the student will create an icon using acrylic gouache techniques, many of which mirror more ancient egg tempera techniques. The workshop is open to all regardless of artistic experience. During this course the students will:

" Learn basic color mixing, drawing and painting techniques.
" Be instructed in the history and theology of the icon
" Will receive personal instruction and demonstration for each stage of painting.
" Complete an icon (guaranteed for the day course only)
" Gain a deeper understanding of the mystical art of the icon and its place in the Church.

Our day will begin with a prayer at 9:00 am, taking a lunch break from 12:30 - 1:30 and then working till around 5:00 pm each day. Short breaks will be taken throughout the working period to stretch and refresh. This an intense schedule so it is recommended to get plenty of sleep in the evening.

Tution and supply fees:

6 Day Course: Monday thru Saturday (42 hrs of instruction)
$475. per student

6 Evening Course: Monday thru Saturday ( 24 hrs of instruction)
$325 per student

Each participant will receive a set of brushes, a prepared panel, all the other materials necessary to complete an icon.

The course is based upon a class of 10-12 people A $500 down payment is needed to schedule a workshop.
Travel expenses are handled case by case.

Students will be required a $100. non-refundable deposit to reserve their space. The remainder is due no later than 30 days prior to the workshop. If the course fills up early a waiting list will be provided.

Cancellation Policy: The deposit fee of $100 is not refundable unless Archangel Icons cancels the workshop due to lack of participants. If the workshop is cancelled, all fees, including the deposit, will be refunded in full. A participant may cancel their enrollment no later than 30 days prior to workshop and receive a full refund minus the deposit fee. No refunds will be offered for cancellations during or after the workshop.

This will be a day time course held at the studios of Archangel Icons from Monday, June 11 through Saturday, June 16 from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm each day.

The course will be limited to 12 students.

Details of the course are the same as described above.

Deadline for registration is 5/31. Students registering after 5/14 must pay full amount of $475 up front.

Lodging is the responsibility of students. A list of area hotels can be provided.
